About Valerie L Bissett

Howdy! I’m Valerie Bissett, a Family Dog Trainer, and I run Smarty Paws Dog Training.

I love working with families and their dogs to maximize their relationship with their pet. By starting training as young as eight weeks in the home, my clients’ dogs set a foundation of good habits for life.

Dogs that work with me learn house manners, impulse control, leash skills, and are well-socialized so that their families can include them in all activities.

Through my continuing education and professional development, I am committed to providing my clients with excellent science-based methods.

My education through Texas A&M University, professional membership of the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants(IAABC), the Association of Professional Dog Trainers (APDT), and being an AKC Canine Good Citizen Certified Instructor and evaluator help me to meet my clients’ needs for them and their dog.

I wanted to work with potty training a little more, but I realize it is different than a command and takes time. She was quick in our initial inquiry, worked with my busy work schedule, and helped me learn how to teach my puppy important skills to keep him safe and learn obedience. She was always exceptionally kind, came to my home for all the lessons, modeled the lessons, guided me through practice, then let me go with a plan to work through during the week until our next session. In 4 short weeks our pup learned to sit, walk a leash, focus his attention through distractions, lay on his bed and stay, leave things alone on the floor or drop it if it's in his mouth, stay at an open door, and even "play dead" - the one trick my children wanted him to learn.
